Abstract

This article aims to do a CONTENT ANALYSIS of the Electronic Discussion group of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad as a case study. The research Population includes 1319 postings sent to this group during December 27'h till June 27th. Results show that the subject distribution covers %56.93 "Related to Library and Information Sciences (LIS)", %20.16 "Subscription" request, %8.64 "Spams", %7.65 "Congratulation & condolences", and %6.95 "miscellaneous". In the second phase, to investigate scientific communication amongst members, a qualitative CONTENT ANALYSIS was carried out on the postings of "Related to LIS". It was found that 194 postings (%25.82) were related to "News and Events about Library and Information Sciences", 21 (%2.79) to "Information Technology news", 96 (%12.78) to "Iranian LIS", 172 (%22.90) to "Conferences & Workshops", 22 (%2.92) to "higher education", 131 (%17.44) to "New resources", 19 (%2.52) to "Searching for LIS professionals", 14 (%1.86) to "Ads for vacancies", 14 (%1.86) to "BookFairs", 23 (%3.06) to "LIS social situation", and last but not least 156 (%20.77) to "ask a professional question" in LIS and related subjects.
