Abstract

The Loya Jirga has been as one of the most important and influential National Grand Assembly in contemporary Afghanistan, since two centuries. This grand assembly has unbreakable linkage with constitution of Afghanistan. From the eight sections of the constitution, seven of them were ratified by the Loya Jirgas and from the six chapters of the current constitution,a full chapter is allocated about the Loya Jirga. This is while some of the researchers and intellectuals of Afghan society have criticized this institution and always considered it by negative viewpoint. In this paper, the position and function of the Loy Jirgas, concept, content and its genealogy have investigated by descriptive-analytical approach and toward the explanation of historiographical reflection and in the following, the derivative viewpoints and establishing the triple (Nationalist, Leftist and Islamist) Historiographical routes of Afghanistan`s contemporary Historiography, have mentioned about the Loy Jirgas. The result of the research indicates that, the influence of the contemporary Historiographical routes, from political conditions and the continuity of the Loy Jirgas, in justifying the political power of the times rulers, caused that, the mentioned routes, despite criticizing the effective ethnic roots, on their functional nature, got significant position to formation of the basic changes.
