Abstract

Considering different approaches toward the concept of bank and banking, in this study, indices for EFFICIENCY of total factors for production (TFP) are figured out in bank keshavarzi through 1992 to 2001, and show the differences caused in action by practicing each of them. At first, the INDEX of EFFICIENCY for total factor of production is modified by an intermediate approach and then, calculated by an economic consideration. Second, the INDEX of EFFICIENCY for total factor of production is again modified by an intermediate approach, but here, the required bank accounting statistics is calculated, the third INDEX is a production based approach and the fourth, is calculated based on an intermediate approach. Using different approaches, the calculations approved considerable difference in the results related to increases of EFFICIENCY. It emphasizes the necessity for more attention to choose the most appropriate method of calculations. In spite of the existing problems in developing such a banking system, the results come out of operating through different approaches-mentioned above-show a considerable increase of EFFICIENCY in ISLAMIC BANKING.
