Abstract

InFertility is the inability to conceive after a year of regular unprotected intercourse. It does not necessarily mean a "conception failure". Several reasons can arise either from the male or the female can cause inFertility. This study aims to assess the Pregnancy rate among couples undergoing in vitro fertilization in Iraq. In 2020, 100 couples underwent IVF in Kamal Al-Samaraee Hospital. Data was extracted from the hospital patient records and the examination was done by a gynaecologist for women and urologist for men and collected using a structured questionnaire, seminal fluid analysis, and blood samples from the patients were done for the hormonal assay. A statistical analysis using SPSS software was performed for data entry, a p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Women mean age 30 6.7 years and men 35.01 7.5 years. 80% of females were housewives, two-thirds of the males were self-employed. Primary inFertility was more common than secondary type (85% vs. 15%). The commonest indication for IVF is male factors (38%) of inFertility. The inFertility duration mean value was 7.15 3.96 years. 27 couples had a successful post-IVF pregnancy. The Highest Pregnancy rate for women <30 years (36.4%). Factors, varicocele, abnormal sperm, type of inFertility and younger age of the female have significant impacts on post-IVF rate. Other factors including male age, family history of inFertility and inFertility duration had no impacts on post IVF Pregnancy rate. The Pregnancy rate was comparable to the global rate. Secondary inFertility and younger age of the female were the significant predictors of successful IVF.
