Abstract

Based on Lefebvre’ s concepts and dialectical methodology this article studies production and transformation of urban space of Babolsar during Qajar and Pahlavi Era. It studies structures (Economy, culture, politics) and agencies (relationships of social forces) simultaneously and together, by using sources such as travel literature, documents, photos, local, national, and international histories, and applying technics like deep interview, group discussion, oral history and observation. Regarding to Lefebvre’ s triad, and special experience of this city, constructed triad in this research includes ‘ Spatial Practice’ , ‘ Economic Policies’ , and ‘ Political Economy’ . Components of these three aspects are traced in seven historical periods which are constructed from the findings of this research. Applying Dialectical triad during different periods shows economic and Cultural turns in internal and external social forces. Finally, it shows transition in space from absolute space to abstract space and then to differential space. This research has tried to present an anthropologic interpretation focusing on these changes.
