Title

Review of Dr. Saha’ s Misconceptions on the Seven Heavens in the Qur’ an

Pages

  67-90

Abstract

Challenging the holy Qur’ an has been existed in various ways since the first days of the descent and today is still ongoing. A common method was always spreading doubts against the Qur’ an by the enemies in order to weaken the Muslims’ beliefs. In this regard, a claim was made by a person named Dr. Saha, said to be the most complete writing in criticizing the Qur’ an. He attempted to show the existence of errors and faults in the Qur’ anic text. In his section of scientific misconceptions, based on some verses and hadiths, he criticized those verses concerning “ Seven Heavens” . He denied this Qur’ anic claim, linking it to Ptolemaic Theory and ancient myths. This research aims to examine and criticize Saha’ s claim. Based on library documents and the descriptiveanalytical method with a critical approach, it attempts to defend the revealed being of the Qur’ an and the truth of all its contents, including scientific data. As a result, the study shows that, first, the author relied on the weak narratives; secondly, the subject of the Seven Heavens rooted in the divine revelation and then entered into the myths of other nations (not vice versa), and is not related to the Ptolemaic Theory speaking of eight or nine heavens. Thirdly, there is not only any scientific reason to reject the Seven Heavens, but the existence of the leveled sky in the atmosphere (the layers of the atmosphere) is one of the definite scientific findings. It may confirm the Qur’ anic verses on the issue, though scientific information is still less in this regard.
