Abstract

The Holy Qur'an has repeatedly mentioned Feeding the hunger who were in need of their most basic necessaries of life, i. e. food. These verses have been revealed in a historical context. Accordingly, chronological study of the Qur’ anic verses, regarding the events and the audience of the Age of Descent, will clarify the process of issuing the decree of Feeding the hunger. The present article will deal with this issue. Thus, according to the authentic narratives of the order of the descent, the order of the verses related to Feeding the hunger was determined and it was attempted to identify the stages of institutionalizing this divine command. In the early Meccan Surahs, Allah the Almighty has sought to create a fundamental awareness of this issue by encouraging and warning in Feeding the needy. At the end of this period, the Feeding was being pursued more seriously so that it was declared that the needy have a portion in the others’ property. In Medina, coincided with the formation of the Islamic State, support of the needy became a jurisprudential decree, and was supplied by paying alms-giving (Khums), Zakat, charity and atonement of sins.
