Title

IBN ABI AL-HADID'S LEXICAL SOURCES IN THE-COMMENTARY OF NAHJ AL-BALAGA

Pages

  37-59

Abstract

To explain and comment the literary texts, primarily, it's necessary to explain their words individually and expand their rare words (gharib), hence; with regard to Nahj al-Balaga, which is a literary text with a highest eloquence, a lexical approach is more essential. Since literature like other arts has a substance and base, ward is considered to be the main substance of literature. There is no way to understand the high meanings of expressions except through deep contemplation on the concepts of words. Likewise, Ibn Abial-Hadid, the most prominent commentator of the precious book of Nahj al-Balaga, emphasized this aspect and began its commentary by lexical explanations. besides explanations of theology, eloquence, history, literature, hadith, and etc. Hence, he applied two main methods: imitation (taghlid) and independent jurisprudence (ejtihad). He used numerous lexical resources, other than the two foretold main ways, in order to explain the words, by either taghlid or ejtihad. Although the earlier scholars commonly didn't mention their sources, he referred to some of them along with reasons. So, the present article aims to introduce these sources, some of them though not available and discover their importance in the view of the commentator, and then to be as the basis of lexical study of the great book of Nahj al- Balaga.
