Abstract

A systemdynamicsapproachis presentedin this paper to studythe long-term effects of Iranian State policies to support agricultural section and gain self-sufficiency(SS) of products. Agriculture is studied as one section of the whole national economy. The selfsufficiencyindex is defined in terms of the abilityof the economyto domesticallyanswer the demandfor food. Policiessuch as controlled exchangerate and fixed prices have important effects on production and exportof foods.Thesepoliciesare takento supportconsumersand prod:ucers against high prices, to increase the SS index and the nutritionrate. In the modelpresented,the aim is to measurevariables like export, ICOR index, the ratio of investmentto sUIplus,and SS index against counterpolicies such as equilibriumprices and floating exchangerates in long term. It is shownthatrecommendedpolicies to activate the whole economy are equally effective in this special section.
