Title

A REVIEW OF THE TITLE "JA'FARI SHI'A" WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE HISTORY OF HADITH

Pages

  233-259

Abstract

The title JA'FARI SHI'A Is frequently heard when IMAM SADIQ's biography or any other item relating to his life and Imamate is talked about. In this paper, an attempt is made to search for the roots of the title within the history of hadith in the first two centuries of Islam. It is shown that though the title has a positive connotation nowadays, it was used pejoratively in those days to scorn the shi'a.
