Abstract

In this article the author tries to show that Mahatma GANDHI, the political and spiritual leader of India, had special views about HIGHER EDUCATION.GANDHI believed that LEARNING without VOCATIONAL EDUCATION was of no use to the society. Moreover, he believed that HIGHER EDUCATION did not correspond with the social and economic realities of India. He said MANUAL WORK equalled mental work and one could WORSHIP while working. Considering the reasons of the graduates’ UNEMPLOYMENT, he mentoned the point that the society did not need their speciality. GANDHI said VOCATIONAL EDUCATION should be substituded for FREE EDUCATION; the government should control teaching and education; HIGHER EDUCATION should be supported by the private sector; and men and women should have equal opportunities for education.
