Abstract

The studied area is located about 10 Km south of BOEN-ZAHRA. This area consists of Eocene volcanic rocks with basic, intermediate and acidic composition, but the intermediate rocks have a greater portion than others. Mineralogically, the rocks contain plagioclase, cpx (augite), amphibole, biotite, k-feldespar, and quartz. Petrological studies show the evidences of the CRUSTAL CONTAMINATION and MAGMATIC FRACTIONATION in the source magma. Existing of carbonate xenoliths can shows the CRUSTAL CONTAMINATION. Also glomoroporphyric texture in some plagioclase and pyroxene show that the magma fractionation occurred. Geochemically, Harker diagrams show the fractionation trend in these rocks. Also according to geochemical diagrams; the vertical trend of data in the Rb/Y vs. Nb/Rb plot, increasing the Rb/Th ratio in the Rb/Th vs. Rb plot: modeling of AFC, having the high Ba/Th ratio and low Th/Nb ratio in another geochemical diagram, suggesting that, CRUSTAL CONTAMINATION occured in these rocks.
