Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the performance of Iranian scientific associations in a period between 1998 to 2003. The article reviews the literature of scientific associations with a focus on organizational sociology and sociology of knowledge. Theories on institutionalization of science are discussed and favorable and unfavorable factors that affect the process is studied as well. The surveys examine 107 scientific associations using a handful of data collection approaches including questionnaires and mathematical methods. The article concludes with an evaluation of the Iranian scientific associations against their physical, financial and human resources.
