Abstract

Urban SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT changes to new paradigm in urban planning which is a development in the last decades. Theory of SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, urban and regional SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT change requires political, social, economic and physical infrastructure; planning and management of urban and regional development should be provided on the basis of principles of SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. Difficulties arising from the growth of large cities, population density and rural migration to cities led planners to focus attention on the growth of SMALL TOWNS. Study by researchers in different countries shows that SMALL TOWNS are among the most successful habitat examples in achieving SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. This article is aimed at analyzing and comparing indicators of DEHDASHT city as sustainability indicators with that of urban areas of the country. The type of research is applied- developmental and the method of the study is analytical. In order to analyze the collected quantitative data, SPSS software was used running the Wilcoxon for non-parametric purposes. Findings indicate that DEHDASHT SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT indicators (environmental, economic, social and physical) do not show a good performance in comparison with that of average of urban system of the country.
