Abstract

The present research is undertaken to study the relation between physical spaces and SOCIAL FUNCTIONS. This research is an applied study of analytical - descriptive nature. The required data was collected through document analysis (from libraries, books, projects) arid field study sources (questionnaire and interviews with authorities). The target population of study consisted of the residents of region 19 of TEHRAN, Ahmadieh neighborhood out of which a the sample of 297 informants were drawn using Cochran formula. The questionnaire was randomly distributed across the residents of Ahmadieh neighborhood. In order to analyze physical spaces, housing and related land uses as important components were selected. Further, SOCIAL FUNCTIONS with 5 components (Sense of belonging to the neighborhood, Leisure participation, Social issues, Safety and security) have been assessed. The findings of research indicate the low level of QUALITY of physical spaces and the significant relation between QUALITY of physical spaces and SOCIAL FUNCTIONS.
