Abstract

The main object of this research is analyzing the architectural dimensions and framework of the emerging Citation Databases in terms of research analyzing, processing, and Information Management through studying the SciVal and using literature reviewing, observing, and system analyzing. Initially, the components of research Information Analysis were extracted based on a literature review. The framework of research Information Analysis is included in the main components such as description, classification, analysis, evaluation, information exploration, Information Management, and interaction that each includes sub-components too. A checklist was designed based on data obtained from the Information Analysis framework to study the SciVal and the kind of analysis in SciVal was studied based on the checklist. The results showed that SciVal utilizes four different sections, including overviews, benchmarks, collaborations, and trends to Information Analysis. According to the defined entities in SciVal, the analyzable entities in a software system to analyze and evaluate the research information are: institutes, countries, authors, research groups and departments, publications, subject fields, Scopus sources, and research competency. According to the relations of the defined fields in SciVal records, the main analyzable fields are sources categories, subjects, authors, places, citations, collaborations, and outputs. As a result, the presented framework in this research can be used as a tool and criterion in designing research Information Analysis and management systems.
