Abstract

Islamic emerged in an era and region in which women had officially and socially lower status than men. The Prophet {peace be upon him) attempted to create a fundamental cultural -revolution in the Dark Ages. While he attempted to create an environment for womens progression and merit, he also made an effort to transform social perspective towards women. This movement was successful during the Prophets own life. However, during the post-prophetic era, this cultural movement was severely challenged and obstructed. Consequently, the Islamic schooling basically founded on the dignity of women gradually faded away, and as a result the societal perception about them was entirely transformed. The present inquiry is the role of this reiteration to traditions of the Dark Ages in the post-prophetic era.
