Title

IS KHAGHANI AN ANTI-WOMAN POET?

Pages

  21-42

Abstract

Woman and her humanistic and logical position has arisen lots and hot discussions in modern philosophical and literary schools, and a lot of poets, writers and researches–in past and present–have talked about it in different ways.Khaghani is also one of the poets that the presence of women is highly reflected in his poems, but his views on women have caused serious critics against him, as far as some scholars have named him as the greatest anti-woman poet in Persian literature. This article tries to criticize this view. The writers of this essay considering the facts such as, psychological analysis, the geography of the words (where and when the words have been said), social and family circumstances of the speaker and finally the tone or ironic style of khaghani"s language believe that the main course of harsh critics against khaghani in accusing him as an anti-woman poet is that these critics have misunderstood some of his poems by not catching the tone of the text.Of course it is not deniable that there are some evidences that show debasement of women in his works, but it should be taken into consideration that there is no difference from this aspect between Khaghani and the other classical Persian poets and writers, as this negative view on women is unfortunately seen in all literary works, and it is an undeniable characteristic that traces back to the thoughts and teachings of different nations and religions, such as: Manicheanism, Buddhism, Greek, … and also misunderstanding of religious texts and the penetration of Israelites in Islamic beliefs.
