Abstract

The present study examines INTERNET ADDICTION and its relationship with Internet attractiveness as well as satisfying USERS' different needs through this media. This study was carried out through a survey and the subjects were all the Internet USERS who used Internet in the COFFEE-NETs across Shahin Shahr city, Isfahan, in the spring 1388 (Iranian calendar). Some 170 subjects were selected from among them through quota sampling method, based on time and geographical criteria. To measure the level of INTERNET ADDICTION, the researchers used the indicator introduced by Kimberly S. Young for INTERNET ADDICTION as well as two researcher-made questionnaires for the variables of Internet attractiveness and employing Internet to satisfy one's needs.The findings show that 2.3 percent of the subjects were heavily addicted to Internet, 27.1 percent had an addiction of average level and 70.6 percent were normal USERS.The designed model analysis indicates that satisfying needs as well as attractiveness and novelty of the Internet environment were significant to INTERNET ADDICTION; however, attractiveness and novelty of the environment had a higher potentiality compared to satisfying needs.
