Abstract

Greimas is one of the semanticists who havefocused on the structure of the narrations in their studies and hence the structure has a great importance for him. In fact, he believes that the analysis of the structure of a text will reveal the levels of meaning that have taken place in the deep layers of the text. In narrative semantics, he has suggested a model that includes six actant, namely subject, object, sender, receiver, helper and opponent. This article aimsat the analysis of the character of the KANIZ (the maid) in Mowlavi's MASNAVI. Based on the analysis of the character of KANIZin the polar relationship with other characters of the story and a statistical analysis, it can be concluded that this character almost in all narrational positions takes part as an object of some subjects such as king, warrior, or Caliph; and since the sender in all such positions is sexual desire, the KANIZin all these position, plays the role of a passive sexual goal.
