Abstract

In recent decades, there has been a reconsideration of some social conceptions such as secularism by both Iranian and western scholars. The present study depicts the Iran's internal and external reasons for reconsideration of secularism .On international level, the increased attention paid to religion and religiousness in the world, GLOBALIZATION and its impact on different states, an increase in the number of religious governments, inapplicability of secularism in the Islamic societies and its failure to solve global problems faced by western governments, could be assumed to be the underlying factors. Similarly, on internal level too the spread of western thoughts in Iran, multiple facets of secularism as opposed to one dimensional approach taken by the many Iranian scholars in their treating of secularism then a reassessment of the concept seems to be a legitimate endeavor. Hence, it is crucial that while reflecting on the historical meaning of secularism, the development, similarities, and dissimilarities from other concepts such as conventions, POST SECULARISM, we try to pay more attention to social, political, individual, institutional aspects of secularism from the view points of Islamic scholars in particular and Islam in general and this is to be the main focus set forth in this paper.
