Abstract

Functionalism in political sociology is employed as an analytical tool in this paper to explore the notions of cleric social role and class status, reflection on the civil nature of cleric institution and clashes of cleric as a civil institution with the Pahlavi's regime. The main question in mind is to determine the role of cleric civil institution in the formation and success of ISLAMIC REVOLUTION. The explanation of the clerical political role in the success of ISLAMIC REVOLUTION, in addition to the religious, social and cultural function such as: judicial, educational, endowment and charity, marriage and divorce, are the main objectives of this research.
