Abstract

Data-driven Journalism is the process of utilizing Data to produce, narrate, and disseminate News content—a method that has garnered substantial interest from leading News organizations in recent years. This research aims to raise awareness and generate motivation for effectively employing Data journalism within IRIB News. Data were collected via expert interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. From the interview transcripts, 111 initial themes were extracted, which were then synthesized into 32 organizing themes and finally 4 overarching themes: creating distinction and media credibility, priority-setting and News framing, production of novel, multimedia, and interactive News content, and audience expansion with monetization potential and governance impact. These findings are interpreted through agenda-setting, public sphere, and diffusion of innovation theories.
