LARGE EENHANCEMENT IN MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF AL 2024 ALLOY AFTER SINGLE ROLLING PASS

Abstract

 Age hardenable aluminum alloys exhibit appropriate MECHANICAL PROPERTIES due to the formation of finely dispersed precipitates. Combination of various forming methods and heat treatment (thermomechanical processing) produce finer dispersion of precipitates. In this study influence of COLD ROLLING on the MECHANICAL PROPERTIES of solution treated 2024 Al alloy was investigated. The results show if the samples are cold rolled immediately after quenching the roll processing could be performed successfully with higher strains. Therefore, fine dispersion of precipitates formed dynamically in the rolling direction that results inlarge enhancement in the strength of the material.
