Abstract

Ebtehaj learnt poetry through his ears; a fact that Ebtehaj himself stated in a number of interviews. He heavily depends on and belongs to classical Persian poetry so much so that any first encounter with his poems reminds the reader of older and more classical Persian poetry. His poetry, however, is written in a much fresher and more expressive LANGUAGE; in his poetry there is a sense of “oldness” and “freshness” which come from his power of expression and his creativity. This “oldness” and “freshness” result from a number of sources that can be studied from the viewpoint of LANGUAGE and rhetoric. Ebtehaj, in talking about social issues in his poetry, talks much about himself; “dear SAYEH”, “SAYEH”, “the silent one”, “I” and “we”. Who is this narrator and how can he be interpreted? It seems that we can identify three different “I’s” in the works of this poet. In the current paper, we tried to implement a descriptive and stylistic approach to investigate his LANGUAGE and ideas.
