Abstract

For reducing the impacts of EARTHQUAKE disaster and attaining sustainable society, it is necessary to pay attention to promoting PREPAREDNESS seriously in the cities exposed to EARTHQUAKE, such as Shiraz. So, the research questions were offered such as: "Is there a significant PREPAREDNESS difference between SHIRAZ CITY's neighborhoods? And is there a significant correlation between the neighborhoods' PREPAREDNESS and their socio-economic situation?" So, based on the theoretical bases and previous studies, the operational definition of PREPAREDNESS concept was offered in four dimensions, 14 indexes and 87 indicators, and combined by the AHP and SAW methods. The data were gathered by the households, experts and field questionnaires. For testing the hypotheses, causal-comparative and correlation methods were used. Sample size was calculated by Cochran's method (322 households). Sampling was done by cluster and random methods. The data were analyzed by One-way ANOV A and Tukey-tests for the first hypothese; and correlations method fore the second hypothese. The results showed that the difference of operational and physical dimensions of PREPAREDNESS between the households of neighbors is significant based on the one way ANOV A. General PREPAREDNESS is also significantly different at 99% of confidence. The results of correlation test showed that general PREPAREDNESS has significant relation with literacy, income, occupation and socio-economic status at 99% of confidence. According to the findings, PREPAREDNESS at society scale has socio-economical aspects. So, we must pay attention to this point seriously.
