Abstract

This article tries to study popular uprisings in Arab countries of Middle East and North Africa region with a POLITICAL ECONOMY OF OIL approach. The article uses a multi-variable analytic model that can both explains causes of the uprisings and different path and outcomes of the events in popular revolts that started in Arab countries from late 2010.The article shows that all countries of Middle East and North Africa region have similar characteristics that can explain them as dependence on foreign rents. Kind and extent of these rents and the extent of dependency on them vary among countries of the region but the presence of the rents are prevalent and effect on political stability by different ways. The main question of the article is how popular uprisings and their different path in the region has affected by political economy of Middle Eastern oil? Hypothesis of the article is POLITICAL ECONOMY OF OIL in Arab Middle East countries has had a main role in rising popular revolts through producing exclusive rentier structures.
