Abstract

Investigation of some habitat condition and identification of BREEDING POPULATION of birds in Mond National Park ISLANDS (Um-al-Gourm, Khan and Nakhilou) carried out since March –September 2008. In this study, 44 species of birds (terrestrial and waterbirds) has been identified in the ISLANDS, they contain 1.5 percent of all birds species of Iran. Eight species of them were breeder and reminder (36 species) were passage migratory. Breeder species bred in Khan, Um-al-Gourm, Tahmadon and Nakhilou ISLANDS. BREEDING POPULATION of birds were 40424 pairs. The dominant species were Sterna bengalensis with 19013 and Sterna Anaethetus with 17440 breeder pairs. The breeder populations of Sterna bergii was 920 in Nakhilou. The breeder population of Egretta gularis was 92, 92 and 74 pairs in Um-al-Gourm, Nakhilou and Khan ISLANDS respectively. The breeder population of Dromas ardeola was 2266 on Nakhilou and 481 on Um-al-Gourm. In 2006 the breeding of Charadrius mongolus has been reported for first time on Nakhilou, but this species had not bred in 2008. The information of this study showed, that the Nakhilou, Khan and Um-al-Gourm ISLANDS are very sensitive and important habitats for breeder species of terns, Crab Plover and Western Reef Heron in PERSIAN GULF. The best management of the ISLANDS is Ecosystem management with attracting ecotourism with planning for protecting the natural environment and colonial breeder birds of ISLANDS.
