FACTORS, AFFECTING CURRENT ACCOUNT DEFICIT IN IRAN

Abstract

 The aim of this paper is to evaluate the factors, affecting CURRENT ACCOUNT deficit in Iran economy by applying Co-integration and Vector Error Correction approach during 1956-2006. Results indicate that real exchange rate, oil and gas exports, and TERMS OF TRADE have positive impact, whilst government BUDGET DEFICIT has negative impact on CURRENT ACCOUNT balance. Oil price shocks have positive and statistical impact on CURRENT ACCOUNT balance. Also, the effect of exchange rate unification policy on CURRENT ACCOUNT balance is negative, but not significant.
