Abstract

The ART and CRAFT of CARPET-weaving in IRAN has its origin about one thousand years ago. IRANian CRAFTsmen created rugs and CARPETs with ARTistic sense that caused CARPET weaving to bloom. Because of the resistance of the people against the Mongol’s invasion, many cities of IRAN in Khorasan and Azerbaijan provinces were ruined and the CRAFTsmen and ARTisans were forced to immigrate to Karakorum in Mongolia, began to work there. However, there have been several cities and provinces like Fars, which accepted the domination of Mongols and were protected from the attacks of Mongols. These provinces welcomed many CRAFTsmen, poets, and ARTisans.Ilkhanids received the assistance of IRANians to develop IRAN and make ruined cities habitable. They took significant measures specifically in the fields of economy (trade and agriculture) and culture. Perhaps, they supported the CRAFT of CARPET weaving. Unfortunately, no IRANian CARPET has been remained from the ILKHANIDS of that era, and these CARPETs can only be observed in paintings or books. In this paper, an analytical descriptive method has been used to study the history and resources of CARPET during the ILKHANIDS rule.
