Abstract

Cationic poly(3-acrylamido propyl) tri methyl ammonium chloride Hydrogel was synthesized from (3-acrylamidopropyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride (APTMACl) as monomer, N, Nʹ-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker, ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiators, and N, N, Nʹ , Nʹ-tetramethylmethylenediamine as an accelerator via free radical polymerization reaction techniques in mild condition. The morphology and porosity of the p(APTMACl) Hydrogel was characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The swelling percent of Hydrogel was investigated in water. Palladium ions were loaded into Hydrogel network, then, to reduced metal ions within Hydrogel network, metal ions loaded Hydrogels were treated with NaBH4 as reducing agent. Thermal properties of prepared nano-composit were characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). To investigate the nanostructure, the sample was examined with TEM observations. The amounts of metal nanoparticles entrapped in Hydrogels were calculated by AA spectroscopy. Catalytic activity of p(AA)-Ag catalyst was investigated in the aerobic oxidation of primary alcohols and reduction of nitro compounds. The catalyst was easily recovered from the reaction medium and it could be re-used for other five runs without significant loss of activity.
