Abstract

The present study aims to determine the Basic Color Terms and their hierarchy in Persian. The research framework is Berlin & Kay (1969) for color universal terms. The method is Davies & Corbett (1994, 1995, 1999), and we seek to find the rate of its accuracy in Persian, by statistical methods. The data were collected from two groups of primary school and university students. Analysis of the data from list task and naming task and best exemplars suggest that Persian has six Basic Color Terms (BCTs). The six BCTs in this language are â bi (blue), qermez (red), sabz (green), sefid (white), siyâ h (black), and zard (yellow), respectively. These results are in agreement with Berlin & Kay (1969).
