Abstract

 Arvand Petrochemical industry which is located in Imam Economic Special port zone, is being under production since July of 2007.This Petrochemical industry complex is aimed to produce 1'500'000 Tones of Color-Alkali and PVC per year which include: Color-Alkali (CA), Vinyl Cloride Suspension (S-PVC), E-PVC, VCM and EDC. This case study underscore the adverse impacts of Arvand Petrochemical Industry on nearby Ecosystems and Estuaries; After Scoping, for Identifying the Affected areas, water samples were taken for analysis. During the analysis, biological conditions of Estuaries in the Affected region and probable impacts of pollutants taken in to account. For analyzing the Environmental impacts which caused by Arvand petrochemical activities, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) were used; In order to classify Environmental Impacts firstly, the most important pollutants were identified (according to the affected area) then impacts of project products on each unit were predicted. Those pollutants which measured and were higher than standard's threshold categorized in two parts: Those which impact the Environment and those which impact health.This category based on even comparison hierarchy and classification of parameters. What's more in this case study, is that the special vector techniques and Expert Choice Software are used to give weight to environmental factors to classify them.Results of water sampling, Benthic zone and sediments sampling of estuaries were considered to determine water quality of estuaries and their biological characteristics.According to the pollutants measurements plus predicting impacts of Arvand Petrochemical activities the following items were identified as indicator pollutants in aquatic and terrestrial areas: Aquatic pollutants: heavy metals, COD, TSS, Lipids and Glycerol Air pollutants: CO, NOx, SOx, Particles According to what mentioned above, amounts of pollutants and their impacts on environment factors are classified in AHP and then they were given weight.To conclude, this case study clarify that TSS, 0.325 and COD 0.237 are the most important aquatic pollutants, on the other hand, NOx and SOx are the major threat for air pollution. This indicate that in Arvand petrochemical industry various of fish species and benthoses like Decapods, Gastropods and Tanaidas are, Mostly, Influenced by adverse impacts of Petrochemical activities.
