Abstract

Introduction: MACROCEPHALY phenomenon has been shown in less developed countries and the size of largest city in this countries is more than 5 to 10 equal of size of population of second city. Aggregation administrative – politic activities and commercial – social activities in first city are deterrent of development in other cities in this countries. As a result, regional and national balance is destroyed. The purpose of study is analysis of urban network in the metropolitan region of Lorestan.Research method: the methods of this study are combination of quantitative - analytical methods and we have used THE RANK- SIZE RULE, Rank - size adjusted, ENTROPY INDEX, Lorenz Curve, and GINI COEFFICIENT.Finding: The results of this study show that urban network in the metropolitan region of Lorestan do not follow from Rank- Size Rule. The spatial balance is relatively good between population and number of towns in metropolitan area. The distribution of urban population and urban area are semi – balanced. And finally at the macro level, first city (Khoram abad) have occurred MACROCEPHALY phenomenon in metropolitan region of Lorestan.Results: for preventing the formation of the first urban area we should avoid migration inter-provincial and, will strengthen the middle and small cities.
