RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN COGNITIVE EMOTION REGULATIONS STRATEGIES AND EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS WITH REGARD TO PERSONAL AND FAMILIAL FACTORS

Abstract

 Background and Aim: The aim of this research was to study the relationship between COGNITIVE EMOTION REGULATION strategies and EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS of DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, HOSTILITY INTERPERSONAL SENSITIVITY and INTERPERSONAL SENSITIVITY, with regard to personal and familial factors.Method: In this correlation study, 300 undergraduates from different faculties of Isfahan University were selected via multi-stage random sampling. COGNITIVE EMOTION REGULATION Questionnaire (CERQ), Symptom Checklist-90 Revised (SCL-90-R), and demographic questionnaire were applied to the sample. Pierson’s correlation coefficient, canonical correlation and Stepwise regression analysis were used for statistical analysis by SPSS-11.5.Results: Results demonstrated that catastrophizing and rumination could predict emotional regulation. Also, from among the personal and familial factors, recent stressful events were related to all of the EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS, and HOSTILITY was correlated with sever traumatic experiences.Conclusion: According to the findings, eliminating non-effective emotion regulation strategies and training effective strategies should be considered as part of the intervention in EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS.
