Abstract

Security as a prerequisite for development is the collection of interactions, co-operation and compatibility among various components of society. In addition to security, the issue of the Sense of security that relates to the psyche of humans has a special place among the people. The present study aimed to compare the Sense of security among the residents of central and marginal tissues in the city of Sari. This is a descriptive-survey study done in a field experiment. The statistical population of the study is people aged 15 to 44 years old in Sari. 390 persons were randomly selected using Cochran table as the sample. The tool used is a researcher made sense of safety questionnaire with 20 items. Cronbach’ s alpha coefficient was used to study the reliability of the research, and for validity, the content validity and validity were used. Inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The findings show that there is a significant difference between residents of central and pripheral areas in terms of four dimensions of sense of safety (life safety, financial safety, honor safety, social safety). There is also a significant difference between police presence and performance and the degree of sense of safetyy, but there is no difference between the variables of age, gender, marital status and education with a sense of safety. The result is that the sense of safety is a psycho – social process which cannot be imposed on individuals, but a part of it is based on interests, desires and abilities of the personality and mentality of individuals, and the other part is made by creating social infrastructure. Therefore, recognizing the status of security in urban communities and marginalized areas based on research findings can help to better plan for the balanced development of these societies.
