Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to determine the prevalence and types of the MEDICINAL PLANTS used by the pregnant WOMEN referring to health centers in Tabriz. The research was a cross–sectional descriptive study which was carried out during the second half of the year 2013 on 318 married WOMEN aged 15-45 who referred to Tabriz health centers for pregnany check-ups. A questionnaire was used for data collection. Descriptive statistics, chi square, Independent-Samples T-Test, Pearson test and One-Way ANOVA were used for data analysis through SPSS /ver 21. The findings indicated that 31.4% (100.318) of the pregnant WOMEN had used herbal plants. The most frequently used herbal drugs were Mentha longifolia (38%) and ginger (13%).The high proportion of herbal drugs use caused the PREGNANCY care providers to be aware of the common herbal supplements used by WOMEN, and give sufficient consultation to them.
