Abstract

The present research was carried out in order to determine the relationship between the PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS and MENTAL HEALTH of the PREGNANT WOMEN in Tabriz. The research is of descriptive-correlation type. The statistical population consisted of all the 40000 PREGNANT WOMEN who monthly referred to the public hospitals of Tabriz in the year 1388. The sample size was 309 PREGNANT WOMEN who were chosen by simple random sampling. The data were collected by using NEO-FFI (Costa &McCrae, 1992) and general health questionnaire (Goldberg, 1972). The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation. The results showed that there was a negative correlation between neuroticism and MENTAL HEALTH. Also, there was not a positive relationship between extroversion and "conscientiousness" and MENTAL HEALTH. However, there was not a relationship between flexibility and pleasantness, and MENTAL HEALTH.
