Abstract

This study aimed to compare the GENERAL HEALTH and DEFENSE MECHANISMS in ADDICTED PRISONERS, non-addicts and normal people. The study of causal- comparative was implemented, with a sample size of 180 ADDICTED PRISONERS, non-addicts and normal people (60 in each group) who were matched in terms of demographic characteristics, Data were collected by the GENERAL HEALTH questionnaire of Goldberg et-al and Andrews' defense questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance and Tukey test. The results showed a difference in all components of GENERAL HEALTH and developed DEFENSE MECHANISMS among the three groups of prisoners of drug addicts, non-addicts and normal people. There was a difference between neurotic and immature DEFENSE MECHANISMS of normal individuals and ADDICTED PRISONERS, and also between prisoners and normal people. But there wasn't any difference between the non-addicted and addict prisoners. Important information on the Prevention of Crime and Treatment we can get comparing the above groups.
