Abstract

The extent to which virtual space influences different groups of people has become a very important question in recent years, therefore, the purpose of this research was to assess the effects of virtual social networks on youth in Arak city. The research population of the research consisted of young girls and boys 18-25 years old, of which, on the basis of Morgan’ s table, 384 individuals were selected as the sample. . This is descriptive-explanatory survey that employed a questionnaire to gather needed data. The ideas of Jorgen Habermas, Manuel Castles, Pierre Bourdieu, Antony Giddens, Georg Simmel, Herbert Bloomer, Erich Fromm and Robert Putnam were utilized to form the theoretical base of the study. The results showed that virtual social networks were significantly related to youths’ leisure time activities, lifestyle, emotional familial relations, social identity, and social welfare.
