Abstract

 Market SEGMENTATION is an analytical process which would attract customers, maximize the resources and create a competitive advantage if it can be done precisely based on sales and marketing plans.In this article, SEGMENTATION literature and related concepts and definitions have followed by the necessary, advantages and goals of SEGMENTATION. In the next part, SEGMENTATION strategies are provided and analyzed. Then, we would compare the SEGMENTATION in consuming and INDUSTRIAL MARKETs. The role of marketing information system and marketing research introduce to apply in market SEGMENTATION. Finally, we would study a case in the petrochemical industry in Iran. The results of this study illustrate that the determinants of the studied model has an influential role in petrochemical market SEGMENTATION and they are the framework for effective petrochemical market SEGMENTATION and designing the fitted model.Basically, the survey outcome displays that it is necessary to segment the markets for promoting the effectiveness of trilateral communication between industry, university and government in order to determine the mission of each and no one would do irrelevant actions based on its scope.
