Abstract

Bourdieu’s concept of Distinction is the starting point of studying life styles in Tehran. The main question is which trends do life styles in Tehran fallow: Distinction or uniformity? Trying to answer this question, The material and non material manifestations of culture have been considered. The material elements like food, clothing and housing and the non material elements like social interactions, art, literature, music and poetry have been studied. The method of research is quantitative in which 300 respondants heterogenes according to some social variables like age, gender, education, occupation income and place of residence were questioned. A questionnaire was completed by respondants through out Tehran. The research utilized descriptive and analytic statistics like cluster analysis. The findings indicate that Uniformity in LIFESTYLEs is more prevalent dispite heterogeneity.
