Title

INVESTIGATING THE GEOMORPHIC FEATURES OF TAFTAN AREA AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

Pages

  79-98

Abstract

To arrive at an all-inclusive and sustained development and to replace oil resources with the new resources of fund-raising, we need to utilize all the potentialities. In the same vein, tourism industry, regarded by the economists as the third dynamic economic phenomenon inside the country (with the first and second ones as petroleum industry and car factories respectively), is a vital trend in the development of the country. Taking the cultural and religious considerations of the country into account, however, one of the best options in obtaining tourism income is the issues of ecotourism and GEOTOURISM. Thus, studying the regions suitable for developing such kind of tourism is of utmost importance. This study, therefore, sets out to investigate the GEOMORPHIC features of TAFTAN Area and their contributions in developing tourism in Iran. The research employs a PROLONG MODEL to examine the mentioned features. Six locations from among all the GEOMORPHIC regions of TAFTAN were sampled for analysis and for each of them some records were kept. The data analysis revealed that the region is rich in potentialities for tourist attraction. The six places are significant in that they possess high levels of beauty and science criteria. Factors such as insecurity, access difficulty, distance from densely populated areas, and lack of attention to geoturism are some of the reasons for a decrease in the totality of criteria. Thus, TAFTAN Peak enjoys the highest GEOTOURISM criteria, with its tourism criterion averaging 0.63 and with its productivity value of about 0.75.
