Abstract

Nowadays, tourism industry plays a critical role in economic and cultural development of countries so that it has been called “invisible export” by some economists. Iran has enormous potentials for cultural tourism especially cultural and religious ones. CULTURAL LANDSCAPE represents cultural and natural values that are rooted in man’s interactions with the nature during the past history. In addition, the CULTURAL LANDSCAPE encompasses memory, identity, and history of the region and its residents. There is need, thereby, to preserve the CULTURAL LANDSCAPE and its values. HORAMAN region, in which Pirshaliar tomb and pertinent customs are seen as CULTURAL LANDSCAPE and identity, is located near mountains, springs, and woods. In fact, all holy places of ancient Iran, especially Zoroastrian holy places, are usually located close to mountains, springs, and woods. This reality may be a hint of naturalistic roots of Iranian ancient beliefs, which in turn were rooted in their belief in nature’s gods. The present study is aimed to find the factors effective in the development of motivation among the tourists in light of the aspects of CULTURAL-RELIGIOUS TOURISM. Recent years have been featured with great emphasis and success in developing tourism in HORAMAN region. For data gathering, a researcher-designed questionnaire was developed to determine the main factors effective in motivating the tourists. During six days, 340 questionnaires were filled out by randomly selected participants in presence of the researchers. The results showed that despite the existence of economic problems and the long way journey, CULTURAL-RELIGIOUS TOURISM is still strong and attracts tourists from different age groups and educational levels.
