Abstract

Tourism development is an important factor for economic growth and it should be realized through appropriate methods and ways. HEALTH TOURISM and MEDICAL TOURISM are of the major opportunities for tourism development in Iran. Beautiful nature, HOT SPRINGS; MINERAL WATER are the capabilities of Iran. In this paper, first, HEALTH TOURISM and MEDICAL TOURISM were defined and then HEALTH TOURISM’s subcategories were noted. History of MEDICAL TOURISM in Iran was also reviewed. Iran's position on MEDICAL TOURISM, and Iran' s share of MEDICAL TOURISM was examined. Iran's capabilities in HEALTH TOURISM were listed, after that the role of hot and MINERAL WATER in the HEALTH TOURISM was analyzed. Also in the present article historical background of hot and MINERAL WATER in the world and Iran was reviewed. Iran's capabilities in different geographical areas, including: Ardabil, Mazandaran, Sistan and Baluchestan, Eastern Azarbaijan, Kerman and some other cities were expressed. The results indicated that HYDROTHERAPY, HOT SPRINGS and MINERAL WATER in Iran require more attention and investment and as a result are able to play an important role in tourism development.
