STUDY OF GENETIC DIVERSITY AND IMPORTANT CORRELATIONS OF AGRONOMIC TRAITS IN RICE GENOTYPES (ORYZA SATIVA L.)

Abstract

 Rice is one of the most primary foods for a large part of the people of the world and is the main resource of protein and calorie in Asia. GENETIC DIVERSITY is a pre-requisite equipment to select the suitable parents which may produce new important recombinant lines. Hence, the MAHALANOBIS DISTANCE among twenty five genotypes consisting IRANian and introduced rice varieties were estimated. The analysis of variance showed that there were significant differences among studied traits. The estimated correlation coefficients showed significant relationship between grain yield and time to heading, time to maturity, number of grain per panicle, fertile stem number, culms number, flag leaf length and flag leaf width. Broad sense heritability was varied from 72% for grain yield to 99% for panicle length and plant height. The PRINCIPAL COMPONENT ANALYSIS declared six components which accounted 90% of total variation. The grain length had extreme allotment among first and second components. The varieties were grouped into four groups using CLUSTER ANALYSIS with UPGA method. The highest MAHALANOBIS DISTANCE found between the 1st and 4th groups. The lowest significant MAHALANOBIS DISTANCE were found between Hassan Saraei and Line213 (26.1) while IR58 and Alfa showed the highest distance (1522.34). According to the results of this research, we offer crossing between Anbarboo and IR58, Alfa and IR28, Hassan Saraei Atashgah and IR58 and we anticipate a high comparably heterosis and diversity through segregating generations.Moreover, based on the results derived from dendogram assay, it seems that UPGA method provides more precise dendrogram than CL method.
