Abstract

Mythological criticism has remained quite unknown in Iran despite its prevalence and popularity. And except for a few famous methods such as Yung's prototypes, Campbell's monomyth, or Frye's Archetypal approach, other basic approaches to the study of myths in literature - like MYTHOCRITIQUE, mythanalyses, or the poetics of myth - have been totally neglected in Iran notwithstanding the fact that they have been already presented to the Iranian audience. This paper tends to introduce one of the most significant approaches to the study of myths called MYTHOCRITIQUE to Iranians for the first time. This approach was first posed by GILBERT DURAND in the 70's and was then developed by other researchers. The present article could then be significant from two aspects: first, it introduces one of the most important methods of myth criticism that is still at work, secondly, it would pave the way for the introduction and discussion of other mythological criticisms, especially the recent ones. Hence, it tries to follow the formation and evolution of this method as with its primary creator.
