Abstract

The current study has investigated the correlation between IDENTITY STATUS and MARITAL SATISFACTION among student couples of MARTYR and NON-martyr’s families. The study is designed in a descriptive manner and the population was all the student couples, from both MARTYR’s and NON-martyr’s families in the universities of Karaj County. 400 married students, 200 male and 200 female, were the subjects of the study. A sample group was selected based on convenience sampling. The data was then collected by means of two questionnaires, namely Self IDENTITY STATUS (EOM-Eis-2) and Enrich MARITAL SATISFACTION Questionnaire. To answer the research questions, an inferential approach was adopted and Z-test and T-test were conducted to determine correlational coefficient (r), Fischer’s Zr test was carried out to compare within-group correlation and also T-test and Mann-Whitney U were used for the comparison of means and the rankings of two groups. Based on the results, IDENTITY STATUS has a positive relation to MARITAL SATISFACTION. In other words, those who have high IDENTITY STATUS are more satisfied with their marriage. Moreover, the difference of two variables (satisfaction and IDENTITY STATUS) between MARTYR’s and NON-martyr’s families was only significant in one dimension of IDENTITY STATUS, which was identity development and was insignificant in other dimensions.
