Title

SHAMS’ KIMIA (FLUCTUATIONS IN THE STORY NARRATED ABOUT SHAMS IN KIMIA KHATOON)

Pages

  115-139

Abstract

Kimia Khatoon, a novel written by Ms. Saideh Quds, is among the novels written about the life of SHAMS. In short time-five years, from 1383 to1388- it has been republished for twenty times. This may cause hapiness on one side, and concern on the other side. One may get concerned because of the fear of the readers’ dislike of SHAMS, and, consequently, of Moulana (Rumi)-his disciple- who composed a lot of sonnetrs on him, and of the pure mysticism and prominent legacy of Iranian mysticism, of such works like Masnavi and SHAMS’ Sonnets. One may fear that this novel can understimate and degrade Persian literature, mysticism, and Iranian mystics, as we have experienced selling a lot of our good things for nothing without replacing them: this happened in a period of time when a lot of people in the West showed great interest in Iran mysticism in general, and Moulana’s (Rumi’s) mysticism in particular; it came to the point that within a few consequtive years Rumi’s poems were among the best-selling books in United States, and in less than a decade, nearly one hundred million copies of his poems have been sold! It seems that Ms. Saideh Quds in the course of the narration of her novel wants to depict SHAMS’ behavior based on certain psychological factors and the repression of instincts. This paper deals with two points:1. The author of the novel has in fact narrated the story of SHAMS’ life based on the contemporary Western schools of psychology.2. Psychoanalysis is not a proper way to analyse mystical characters, for entering the field of psychoanalysis may cause a lot of issues relating to mysticism to be ignored. Thus, these issues being ignored, one cannot realize many aspects of mystical characters. To this end, this paper tries to study the fluctuations in the narration of Kimia Khatoon and compares them with historical NARRATIVE resources such as Managheb Al-Arefin and Resaleye Sepahsalar, and finally examines the reasons of these differences.
