Abstract

The main objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between LABOR PRODUCTIVITY and natural unemployment in Iran’s economy. Because of the ability of Kalman’s filter to maintain the structure of information of time series as well as possibility of forecasting time series in long term, this filter was used in this study. NATURAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE and the growth rate of LABOR PRODUCTIVITY in Iran were calculated using the filter and the relationship between them was investigated. The results indicate that the rate of natural unemployment is high and rate of lobar productivity is very low in Iran's economy. Results also show there is a negative relationship between the two variables. In other words, to decrease the unemployment rate in Iran, the roductivity improvement should be taken into consideration as the main economic policy. To calculate the Philips curve's coefficients and natural unemployment as a non-observable variable together, the study proposed a new structure by combining Kalman filter and genetic lgorithm.
